A dream for the expert and novice do-it-yourselfer alike to install, no miter cuts!  By utilizing soft base corners and universal inside corners some of the seemingly tricky applications can be made easily.  These neat little corners are available in a large variety of profiles to match your door casings, crowns, bases and sill returns for the windows.

Wondering how you too can achieve the results of a professional?  By following steps outlined by Wood Specialties you can accomplish the look you’re after without paying a small fortune.

Step One:  Pre-fit external soft corners using a scrap piece of the moulding as a guide to ensure an accurate fit.  The soft corner can then be fixed in place using small finishing nails or an adhesive such as silicone or hot glue.

Step Two:  When installing an interior corner, pre-cut the internal corner to suit the height of the moulding and attach firmly in place.  If used in new construction allow a space under the corners and straight moulding sections for the floor coverings.  Depending on the thickness of the floor covering allow approximately 3/8"-1/2".

Step Three:  Measurements can now be taken for the straight pieces of moulding which should be cut to length accurately and fitted tightly.  The suggested method and the one most preferred, is using glue to attach the butt joints of the moulding to the soft corner.  There are variations in the methods of installation.   Instead of fixing soft corners to the wall, it is better to preassemble the soft corner to the first piece of moulding.  To do this, simply measure the distance from the inside corner to the outside corner of the wall.  Cut the moulding accurately to length.  The square soft corner can then be attached to the clean cut end of the moulding with woodworking glue.  Apply masking tape to hold the corner to the moulding ensuring that the profiles are properly aligned.  Allow the glue to set (approximately 15 minutes but will vary depending on the specific glue used).  The pre assembled section can now be firmly attached to the wall.  The soft square corner should be sitting past the corner of the wall, so the next piece of moulding can be fitted into place.

Step Four: Repeat the process discussed above.  Continue around the entire room.

Step Five: The corners can then be blended by filling any small gaps with wood filler, and using a small half round file and sandpaper until a smooth, neat joint is obtained.
